Math

PROBLEM SOLVING
Mathematical problem solving requires that students have an understanding of relevant concepts, procedures and strategies.  In order to become a strong problem solver, our students are provided many opportunities to formulate questions, model problem situations in many different ways and explain mathematical relationships.

COMMUNICATING
In order to express their ideas clearly, students are given many opportunities to acquire and use correct mathematical language, both in writing and orally, when explaining what they are doing.  By talking and writing about the math that they are doing, the students and NEHA learn how to support their arguments with conviction, as well as represent their ideas verbally, pictorally and symbolically.

REASONING and PROOF
Students are provided opportunities to develop their reasoning skills through forming hypotheses, drawing conclusions and supporting their thinking in age appropriate ways.

REPRESENTATIONS
Creating a set of tools that students can use to think mathematically is paramount.  Our mathematics program uses numbers, shapes, operations and relations.  By understanding these representations, the students are able to solve problems related to diagrams, algebraic expressions and graphs.

MAKING CONNECTIONS
Mathematics can be seen in our daily lives and so much that we do.  Through exploration, students are able to understand the relevance and appreciate the importance of the subject.  This comprehension allows our students to connect math with other content areas, as well as the world around them.
